Newark Police Officer Killed, Another Wounded in Line of Duty Shooting
Newark, N.J. — A Newark police officer was killed, and another was wounded in a shooting Friday evening, authorities confirmed.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the officers were shot around 6:37 p.m. near Broadway and Carteret. Both officers were transported to University Hospital, where one was critically injured. The officer who lost their life has not yet been publicly identified.
Robert W. Fox, president of the Fraternal Order of Police-New Jersey State Lodge, confirmed the tragic loss in a statement, saying, "One Officer has made the ultimate sacrifice, and the other is receiving treatment for their wounds."
Law enforcement officials have not yet released further details about the suspect or circumstances surrounding the shooting. The incident remains under active investigation.
